6 Days Mt. Kilimanjaro Climbing- Marangu Route


Day 1

 

 

 


Pick up from the hotel at 8.00 AM and depart Arusha for the Marangu Gate. After registration clearance, your climb will commence at 1,720 meters to Mandara Hut (2,700 meters) through the rain forest. This will take about 3 hours.

Day 2 

 

 

 



After breakfast, you will gradually ascend via Maundi Crater(upper route) to Horombo hut, at 3,720 meters. This climb takes you through open moorland and forest and takes about 4-5 hours. You will have dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut (Tourist Village).

Day 3

 

 

 

Today is your acclimatizing day and should be spent hiking at higher altitude, perhaps up to view Mawenzi peak, returning to Horombo Hut for dinner and overnight. Meal Plan: B, L, D


 

 

 

 

 

Day 4

 

 

 


After a good rest, resume your climb. A bit of the mountain peak can be seen while walking through the alpine forest on the way to Kibo Hut, at 4,703 meters. Kibo Hut, where you will have dinner and overnight, is reached after a 5-6 hour walk. Meal Plan: B, L, D


 

 

 

Day 5

 

 

 


You will be awakened just after midnight to begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters). This is a 5-hour walk. 

 

 

 

 You will then descend back to Kibo hut where waiting porters will join you for your continued descent to Horombo Hut where you will have dinner and overnight. Meal Plan: B, L, D

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 6

 

 

 


After breakfast, a simple descent remains to reach the Marangu Gate where you will be awarded your Summit Certificate, transfer back to Arusha and to your hotel. Meal Plan: B, L



 

 

 

 

 

PACKAGE INCLUDES

 


All park, camp and rescue fees, transfers to and from the gates gates at start and finish of a climb, services of licensed, experienced, English speaking mountain guide, licensed assistant guide for groups of two or more persons, porters, and cook, three meals a day are provided. We provide a variety of foods to permit varied meals with full breakfasts with foods such as eggs, sausage, toast or pancakes, hot cereal, fruit and juice, tea or coffee. Lunches are sometimes packed and sometimes hot, so will vary. Dinners will have meat dishes of beef, chicken or fish, fresh vegetable dishes, pasta, rice, potatoes, homemade soups, fresh fruits, desserts, juice, tea, coffee. We provide camping gear- tents, mountain mats, sleeping bags and blankets. (You may also use your own if you wish).

mineral water for drinking, except for the first day, soft drinks, alcohol or tips for guide and porters, personal gear or clothing for the climb is not provided but is available for hire, accommodation and meals before and after the safari are not included, pending your choice of type and budget range. We normally offer you your choice according to your preferred standard and budget

We provide 3L water for the first day only and the balance is taken from the mountain and purified. You can bring purification tablets, a filter system or, if the group is one or two people only, the cook can boil water for you in the evenings. You should have a torch-a headlamp type is best, extra batteries, warm waterproof pants and jacket, warm clothes to layer, hat that covers your ears or even your face, gloves, warm socks and good climbing boots. Walking sticks are used by most, especially for the descent. Be sure to bring lip balm and sunscreen and sunglasses or goggles. The glare for the snow and ice can cause serious sunburn.

TIPPING

Porters: $5-10 per porter per day. One porter is your cook and usually receives a bit more.

Guides: $15 per person per day or a group amount
